When I took up art once more for the first time since school age I hadn't as yet been bitten by the digital art bug, and bought myself sets of watercolours and rotring pens because I loved the narrow black lines which gave the watercolours definition.
However as soon as you hit art school you get so many opportunities to try so many different media and techniques and you feel that you want to explore all of them.
Now I am considering how my practice is to go forward I am asking myself, "What do I enjoy illustrating?", "What will give me a measure of commercial viability?" and "What do I feel able to deliver within a specified timescale?"
The answer to this for me is food/drink and travelogue illustration - not only because it hits all three of the criteria above but also I get so much inspiration from the world around me.
I find working in my old watercolour and pen style particually suitable for the vibe I want to create - one of wholesomeness, comfort and classic style repotage.
This certainly doesnt mean that I will not be undertaking any further projects in my other areas of interest because I am always alive to other openings, including at least a couple on the go that I will be writing about here soon.
